Project CARE - After School Program
Our After School program at Santa Rita Elementary is winding up another successful year. Our last day of operation will be June 3. We have served over 100 students, providing a daily afternoon program which includes recreation, a free snack, supervised homework, academic instruction and enrichment activities.
Special thanks go to our devoted staff of teachers and aides: Chris Johnson, Karen Nalley, Benjamin Zayas, Elizabeth Solis-Vazquez, Jackie Rauimy, Myrna Martinez, and Yvonne Robles. In addition there have been other teachers who have helped in special ways: Marguerite Vollmer, Sheila McNeese and Cesar Bedón.
Also thanks to our partnership organizations: to the Salvation Army for their daily Kids Café services; to the Safe Teens Empowerment Project (S.T.E.P.S.) program of Salinas for their seven-week program which includes drug and alcohol prevention; and to C.S.U.M.B. for providing a service learning volunteer for our program.
Due to the fact that State funding of this program has not kept up with rising costs, this program will probably not be available next year. For further information contact Jorge Jasso, Coordinator of Special Projects, 443-7200 extension 211, at the District Office.
