Medical and Hospital Insurance for Students
The district does not pay for student accidents on
campus. The district makes available a student insurance policy which covers accidents 24
hours per day in any location. You may purchase this policy at a very reasonable rate.
Since accidents do happen, if you do not have health insurance for your children, it is
highly recommended that you purchase this low-cost additional insurance. This policy or
other coverage may be required for participation in athletic activities. Applications are
distributed annually to the students through the schools. [E.C. 49472].

Standards of Proficiency in Basic Skill
Grade level standards are specified in the district
curriculum guides for each subject. The district tests students in grades 1-8 in writing
proficiency, spelling proficiency, and math proficiency. Failure to pass the basic skills
tests can result in referral to Student Study Team for consideration of retention and/or a
special needs program. [E.C. Section 51215]

Regulations Regarding Pupil Achievement
The Governing Board believes good communication
between parents and teachers is important in the educational process. All appropriate
forms of communication should be used. The progress report should reflect student progress
in class work and proficiency levels and indicate educational growth in relation to the
student's ability, citizenship and effort. (E.C. 49067)

Assistance with or Continuing Use of Medication
If your student must take medication during the
school day and will need assistance from a school staff member, please go to the school
office to complete and sign the necessary medication waiver. If your student is on
continuing medication regimen for a non-episodic condition, you are required to notify the
principal of the medication being taken, the current dosage, and the name of the
supervising physician. All medication brought to school must be in its original container,
properly labeled, and kept in the school office except as specified by a physician
according to district policy.

Intradistrict (Transfers Between District Schools) Attendance Options
Students are assigned to a school attendance area
that generally reflects school "neighborhoods." State law allows for transfers
to schools outside a designated attendance area, commonly referred to as intradistrict
transfers. Intradistrict transfers between Santa Rita and La Joya Elementary Schools are
available before school starts as space is available and on a case-by-case basis. Apply
with the school principal.

Interdistrict Transfers To/From Other Districts
Generally, students attend in the school district
where their parents reside and pay taxes. Transfers in and out of the Santa Rita District
are permissible under the state law and local policy. Interdistrict transfers and are
considered on a case-by-case basis by the superintendent or on appeal to the school board.
Applications may be made at the District Office. Your child may have the option of
attending school in the district where you or your spouse are employed. If interested,
call the district office for information. If your child lives in the home of a care-giving
adult, as defined by law, your child may attend the school district in which that
residence is located. Execution of an affidavit under penalty of perjury pursuant to the
Family Code by the care-giving adult is required to determine that your child lives in the
care-giver's home. [E.C. Sections 48204(d), 48980(g)]

study, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of
members of athletic teams, dates of attendance, degrees and awards received, and the most
recent previous public or private school attended by the student. If you wish that the
district withhold any of this information, contact the school principal. [E.C. 48061(c),

Santa Rita Board Policy Regarding Sexual Harassment
Students in grades 4 through 12 may be suspended or expelled for sexual harassment. The following copy of the district's policy on student sexual harassment is enclosed for your review.
The Governing Board recognizes that sexual harassment can cause embarrassment, feelings of powerlessness, loss of self-confidence, reduced ability to perform schoolwork and increased absenteeism or tardiness.
To promote an environment free of sexual harassment, the principal or designee shall take appropriate actions such as removing vulgar or offending graffiti, establishing site rules, and providing staff in-service or student instruction and counseling. Teachers shall discuss this policy with their students in age-appropriate ways and shall assure them that they need not endure any form of sexual harassment.
The Board shall not tolerate the sexual harassment of any student by any other student or any district employee. Any student or employee who is found guilty of sexual harassment shall be subject to disciplinary action.
The Board encourages students or staff to immediately report incidences of sexual harassment to the principal or designee. The Superintendent or designee shall promptly investigate each complaint of sexual harassment in a way that ensures the privacy of all parties concerned. In no case shall the student be required to resolve the complaint directly with the offending person.
